Conference Time:

The school's handbook lists "8:05 to 3:10" as school time.  This is referring to the actual class time.  It doesn't include preparing for class.  My class door is opened for students at 7:30, and I would truly welcome all my students at that time (could I say I prefer it?).  They have time to: 1) unload their backpacks; 2) give me notes; 3) organize their work for the day; 4) go to the restroom; 5) make sure all material needed for each class is where they can locate it; and 7) work on warm-ups or any unfinished homework before the daily announcements begin at 8:00 (at 8:05:01 students are counted "tardy"). I begin teaching at 8:08.
A new policy is in effect for C.I.S.D. schools regarding tardies.  Should a student acquire 6 tardies, a referral will be issued to the student and sent to the home address.
Homework is assigned each day in class, and a message notebook is sent home for parent signature.
